Opening Doors in Education

Ahead with ASDAN

Five young people at HP have completed their ASDAN Living Independently Short Course, meaning they are fast-tracked to move to local authority housing as soon as it is available. HP is a registered moderating centre and now has ASDAN firmly embedded in every young person’s support plan.

Oxford University Open Day

An open day at Mansfield College, University of Oxford, saw our young people enjoy a guided walking tour of the city and college with a current undergraduate. Boosting their aspirations, they also met with care-experienced Oxford students, learning about scholarships, financial support and student life.

Finally, a taster lecture on linguistics challenged the group to think creatively about language, communication and identity, and to reflect on their own life ambitions.

One young person reflected:

“This has motivated me to study harder so I can one day reach this level of education.”

STEM and Innovation at Brunel University

HP’s young people found a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and Innovation session at Brunel University of London eye-opening, as they explored emerging technologies and learned about studying science and engineering at university.

The group toured the campus and enjoyed interactive sessions, including controlling drones and viewing live drone footage through virtual reality glasses, as well as seeing a robotic dog demonstration. After, several of the young people said they could see themselves studying at university and they were keen to learn more about academic pathways and scholarships.
