Youth worker in the making
From Survival Mode To A Sense Of Purpose
What started as shelter became something so much more
When I came to Housing Plus, I had just left my foster care home. I felt overwhelmed, scared, and unsure who to trust. I didn’t see a clear path forward and was just trying to survive day to day.
Housing Plus gave me more than just a roof over my head. They gave me stability. The staff helped me build confidence, learn life skills, and encouraged me to pursue my passion for youth work. They believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
I remember one night we had a small cooking session with other young people and staff. We laughed so much, and for the first time in ages, I felt like I belonged. That night reminded me that things could get better.
Now, I’m working full-time and contributing to the country by paying tax.
I honestly wouldn’t be where I am without Housing Plus. They didn’t just help me survive. They helped me grow and see that I could have a future. They supported me through education, helped me learn how to manage on my own, and stood by me through tough times.
My time with Housing Plus was life-changing. They met me where I was and walked with me until I could stand on my own. I’d tell anyone who supports Housing Plus that they’re investing in real change – not just housing, but hope.
