Ready to give back
From quiet arrival to confident next steps
Arrived knowing no one, now building a life rooted in learning and belonging
When I came to Housing Plus, I didn’t know anybody in London. I met the staff and found friends and become confident quickly – I cannot tell you how much the key workers helped me, the way they cared for me, I really appreciate it.
Housing Plus helped me with my education and I improved my language skills, even making sure I got to my exams on time! They arranged for me to see a doctor and even a physio when I had a problem. I also had a lot of help managing my room, my communication skills and house-sharing with others. The staff helped me apply for my provisional driving licence, to find a solicitor for my immigration case and to write a CV. They helped with everything I asked for.
Living with Housing Plus has been full of happy memories. One of my favourite things is that I made a very good friend. There is a feeling that we are a community living together – young people and staff. Housing Plus also introduced me to the local cricket club and now I play regularly and have lots of friends there too.
Now I’m moving on to my own flat and I aim is to continue with my studies and learning because I want to be a useful person in the community and give back. Housing Plus helped prepare me for this.
It wasn’t only the education, it was also the mental preparation as I I was supported a lot to feel confident and to be able to make decisions about my future.
I say Housing Plus is the best place to live. All of the staff are so lovely and nice. The accommodation is good. Really everything is so good there..
