We Dare to Dream: A platform to talk life, goals and aspirations

In February, Housing Plus young people attended a powerful screening of We Dare to Dream at the Museum of the Home. This poignant documentary about the Olympic Refugee Team resonated deeply with attendees—many of whom have experienced leaving their birth countries—showcasing extraordinary resilience and hope in the face of displacement.

The film’s stories of athletes overcoming adversity sparked meaningful group discussions about identity, migration, and community strength. As one young person shared:

“It made me feel proud—like people from everywhere can achieve great things.”

The museum setting added profound context, inspiring renewed conversations with staff about personal definitions of home, untapped strengths, and future aspirations. These dialogues helped young people clarify goals while reinforcing their sense of possibility.

“Seeing these athletes rebuild their lives mirrored our young people’s journeys,” noted a Housing Plus support worker. “It transformed abstract hope into tangible motivation.”

The experience left a lasting emotional impact, reinforcing Housing Plus’s commitment to nurturing both practical skills and personal growth through culturally relevant experiences.
