Housing Plus marked International Women’s Day with a session designed to spark both curiosity and connection. The goal was to create a space where learning goes hand in hand with empathy, reflection, and meaningful conversation.
At the heart of the celebration was an entertaining and informative quiz event, highlighting the achievements of extraordinary women across history and around the world. From pioneers in science to icons in sport, politics, activism, and the arts, the quiz featured trailblazers such as Malala Yousafzai, Rosa Parks, Ada Lovelace, and Serena Williams. Each question offered a window into the impact these women have made, encouraging participants to think beyond headlines and stereotypes.
Chris Ampofo, director of Housing Plus, explained the wider aim of the session: “Many of our young people are teenage boys navigating the pressures of toxic masculinity. It’s crucial that we offer a positive alternative in a fun and engaging way. This session helped open the door to thoughtful dialogue about gender, equality, and respect.”
“I didn’t know about all these people before.” said one participant.
The response from the young people was thoughtful and open. Many of the young men who took part expressed genuine surprise and inspiration at the stories they heard.
“It made me realise how strong and smart women are”
The session not only celebrated women’s achievements but also planted important seeds for future conversations around fairness, identity, and positive role models. It was a moment where fun and learning came together to make a lasting impression.
