Food, Community and Shared Traditions

Sambusa Cooking Workshop

HP loves to celebrate cooking traditions, and the sambusa cooking workshop was co-designed with the group.

Sambusas are Middle Eastern/ East African parcels of deliciousness, similar to samosas. Two of our young people with Eastern African heritage led as the group prepared ingredients, and folded and cooked the pastries. It was a practical and social event, strengthening cooking skills and celebrating cultural traditions, which everyone enjoyed.

Ramadan Iftars

Iftar is another opportunity to celebrate different cuisines. Throughout Ramadan, HP hosted several gatherings, bringing young people together to prepare and share meals after breaking the fast.

Dishes included Sudanese gheema, Iranian chicken and rice, Kurdish dill potato rice, Egyptian macaroni bechamel and various sides. These evenings created a warm atmosphere of community, with everyone helping to cook, set the table and tidy up after eating together.
