At Housing Plus, we champion diverse pathways for self-discovery. This season offered rich opportunities for young people to explore creativity, literature, and physical wellness:
Celebrating Words
Our World Book Day celebrations saw staff dressing as beloved literary characters – from classic to contemporary tales – sparking laughter and lively discussions about:
- The joy and accessibility of public libraries
- How fiction and non-fiction foster both knowledge and relaxation
The initiative’s popularity has already inspired plans for an expanded event next year.
For World Poetry Day, we transformed our spaces into interactive literary galleries:
- Poetry-themed quizzes sparked friendly competition
- Classic and modern anthologies borrowed from local libraries
- “Poetry tours” displayed verse on doors throughout our accommodation, creating a walking exhibition of words
When Words Aren’t Enough
Recognising that English isn’t every young person’s first language, we introduced Art Therapy sessions as an alternative outlet. Through painting, participants:
- Visualised future aspirations
- Acknowledged personal progress
- Explored emotions non-verbally

Building Strength, Inside and Out
We’re delighted to secure free gym memberships for our young people, promoting:
- Physical fitness and mental resilience
- Routine establishment and self-discipline
- Confidence through achievable goals
The enthusiastic response highlights its value in our holistic support approach.
“These activities remind us that growth happens in many forms – whether through a paintbrush, a sonnet, or lifting weights”
Reflects a Housing Plus key worker.
