Highlighting opportunity, raising aspirations and preparing young people for future success is integral to HP practice, and the team recently supported attendance at university open days and career events designed to broaden their understanding of higher education and employment pathways.
During a visit to SOAS University of London, the young people participated in a campus and library tour, exploring the wide range of academic resources available to students. They visited a new exhibition on Arabic art and history, explored the Japanese and Arabic sections of the library, and were introduced to the university’s gaming society. Taking part in enrichment activities, including the “Crack the Question” quiz, provided an opportunity to engage confidently with current students and experience university life first-hand.

The visit sparked meaningful conversations about future ambitions. One young person expressed a strong interest in studying engineering and physics, particularly in relation to technology and innovation. This led to a wider discussion regarding higher education routes and subject choices aligned with passions and aspirations.
At the What’s Next? University and Career Fair, our young people were supported to take full advantage of such events and to engage appropriately with universities and employers. We were delighted to see them in action at the fair, confidently approaching information stands, gathering prospectuses, and asking insightful questions tailored to their interests.

In parallel, we have supported those considering vocational routes, including a career as an electrician, exploring relevant courses and training pathways.
Overall, the event provided valuable exposure and an overview of academic and technical options, helping young people make informed decisions about their next steps.
These experiences continue to empower the young people to build confidence, independence, and clarity around future goals, ensuring they are supported to make ambitious and informed choices about the next steps in education and careers.
