After securing discounted tickets to the ballet at the Royal Opera House (ROH), Housing Plus staff turned the occasion into more than just an evening out. It became a wraparound experience full of learning, discovery and joy.
The young people were supported to plan ahead, navigating the logistics of travel to Central London. Together with staff, they reviewed different routes on the London Underground, comparing travel times and choosing an option that allowed for sightseeing along the way, while ensuring a timely arrival at the ROH.
Knowledgeable Housing Plus staff guided the group through the elegance of Trafalgar Square and the historic charm of Covent Garden’s streets. Every stop offered an opportunity to learn more about London’s landmarks, history and vibrant culture. What could have been a simple journey became an immersive exploration of the city they now call home.
At the Royal Opera House, the group was treated to refreshments and an experience few get to enjoy a private box, located right next to the Royal Box itself. The young people posed proudly for photos, soaking in the grandeur of the surroundings.
“The ballet was amazing,” said one newly inspired attendee.
“I could really feel the emotion in the dancing. I didn’t expect it, but I loved it.”
Another young person simply said, “I’d love to go again!”
Chris Ampofo, director of Housing Plus, reflected on the evening: “With our new connection here, we’ll be looking to arrange more trips like this. It’s part of how we help our young people connect with the rich cultural life of the city they live in and build experiences that stay with them.”
