Rhythms and Remembrance: A Celebration of Black Music

During Black History Month in October, Housing Plus hosted a vibrant ‘Celebration of Black Music’ quiz night. The event was far more than just trivia—it became an interactive journey through the sounds and stories that have shaped generations.

  • Young people tested their knowledge of iconic artists, genres, and pivotal moments in music history, sparking lively debates about legends like Bob Marley, Beyoncé, and Stormzy.
  • The room erupted with laughter (and noise) as everyone played kazoos, tried their hand at the djembe drum, and even attempted the didgeridoo.
  • Through music, the event highlighted themes of resilience, identity, and cultural pride, strengthening bonds within Housing Plus’s diverse community.

“I didn’t know how much music could teach us about history. Hearing everyone’s favorite songs made me feel connected,” shared one participant.
